In the Fall of 2020, a new committee was launched at Hanson College BC- the Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion Committee (EDIC). This committee exists because as a community, we believe that everyone has their own unique voice which deserves to be heard and respected. Our mandate is as follows:
“To promote a respectful, welcoming environment that advances the voices of the diverse population of Hanson College BC. The EDIC is committed to encouraging an inclusive culture where all members are respected, and where every individual is empowered to contribute to their fullest extent.”
To launch the EDIC, we wanted to focus on a theme that would help unite us amidst our differences- to “Celebrate Diversity.” We wanted to give our community an opportunity to celebrate what has brought us together by listening to individuals’ journeys to Hanson. Each person belonging to Hanson College has a story that has led them here and understanding these stories can help us grow stronger as a community.
We asked several staff, faculty and students to participate in a video project which allowed them to share their stories of preparing for, arriving to and adjusting to life in a new country. We hope that you can you recognize pieces of your own story in the video, and that you are also encouraged to celebrate the diversity that has made Hanson College into the beautiful mosaic that it is.
